Helping Local Through Golf


In their continuous effort on helping the local community and promote responsible tourism, Cambodia’s Leading Tour Operator, PSD Travel incorporate golf events on their program. As the main contact for corporate golf scene in the Kingdom, PSD Travel with their well trained golf department has hosted high-profiles corporate events.


In March 2013, along with the leading golf event planner from Malaysia, they established the inaugural Liberty Cup with a
field of 72 players from 6 countries. In the event, they
collaborate with local NGO, ConCert (Connecting Communities, Environtment and Responsible Tourism) to do a fund raising for the local school. After the final round, players headed to the island green of Angkor Golf Resort for the charity hole-in-one shootout. Golfers contributing US$15 per one session of the challenge which goes to the local
school. The students creativity were tested too to give out a special artwork as a token of appreciation for the golfers whom were touched with their sincerity.



The event went yearly to 2014 and 2015 and seeing PSD Travel appointed Build Future Today (BFT) Center and help out on their charity foundations. Along with the charity hole-in-one shootout that carried yearly with upgraded hole-in-one prized, the event went for a record field of 96 golfers. Children from the learning center performed the famous coconut dance as a token of appreciation on the event prize ceremony and having their golf lesson during the tournament. After their rounds of golf, PSD Travel took the golfers for responsible tourism visit in rural areas. Golfers has the chance to observe the locals’ daily life and helping them in various ways.

In 2015, helping locals initiative also lead to the foundation of Angkor Golf Academy managed by Angkor Golf Resort. Local kids are sponsored for golf experience and the best will be picked to represent the club and country in major tournaments in the near future.

In 2016, PSD Travel appointed Tevy Sarouen, a 17 years old Cambodia female golfer to be their ambassador. She attended the golf events across South East Asia and continuously promotes golf among the youth in Cambodia.

“Besides bringing in tourist golfers to increase the tourist expenditures for country, we would like to promote responsible tourism through golf events. Golf always seen as a sports for elite, but its not always about the game. We would like to promote the golf more to the locals through our partnership with the local golf courses and their academy programs which leads to increase interest for golf and job opportunities for the locals through golf tourism”, said Candra Tanpatti, GM of PSD Travel.
